Press Operator III
may serve as a “Lead Operator” assigned to perform printing related tasks to support efficient press operations to achieve and maintain on-time production, product quality standards, low waste, and operational safety.
Reel operations: Request, deliver & stage newsprint rolls, set-up reels, prepare approved paste patterns for all roll sizes, use web kites/devices as applicable, monitor automatic pasters and/or make hand pasters assist with reel room reports as required.
Unit make-ready: Prepare press configurations, check & prepare units for operation, spot plates, ink make-ready, web-up, conveyor set-up and folder set-up.
Densitometer calibration and operation.
Advanced press control proficiency to reduce waste and achieve Optimum Quality standards which may include: Press inch, start & stop, speed adjustments, CMYK ink & water balance, CMYK ink density, registration & compensation, web tension/nip & trolley settings, slitter adjustments, assisting with lost web recovery & press restarts.
Perform general press maintenance including cleaning & replacing blankets, wiping down press units, installing, checking & adjusting rollers, folder clean out, replacing cutting bars, and other press maintenance as specified.
May assist with plate reports
May assist with plate, chemistry and supply inventories.
May assist with press
KEY RESULT AREAS:
Sets up and operates press units and folders. Sets ink densities and registers color. Runs the reel stands and operates the clamp truck. Understands and may perform basic press maintenance and clean up and set up for press runs. Records press starts and stops on production daily report and enters information into the Web Portal. Configure press runs. Ensure that all pressroom SOP’s are followed.
Maintains a safe and clean work environment. Follows safety regulations and actively contributes to work safety.
Participates in and facilitates training of new employees.
Address internal customers questions and problems.
Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; assisting in appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
One-year certificate from college or technical school and three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
