The Press Operator will be responsible for reading and understanding job layouts, properly setting up and operating offset press equipment, ensuring quality product, assisting in equipment repair, assessing problems, operating reels, handling newsprint rolls, and keeping equipment and work area clean. The incumbent is accountable for the completion of assigned duties under instruction of different lead people on different shifts, and must possess a sense of urgency to meet deadlines. The incumbent must communicate with tact and diplomacy in all areas. The incumbent follows procedures within a defined structure, as well as understands and appreciates the importance of the customer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Move, load, and prepare newsprint rolls weighing up to 2200 pounds.
Clean pipe rollers and assist in roller changes.
Preset units for printing; Includes hooking up ink hoses and purging ink.
Plate up and bar cylinders.
Engage and disengage units.
Lead in tapes, climbing superstructure on all unites when needed
Set ink and water balance.
Set gray bars using densitometer.
Monitor products for print quality.
Push large metal waste dumpsters into the warehouse.
Clean up all oil spills and pump out pits when needed.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
3-5 years of experience as a press operator
High school diploma or equivalent
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must bend, climb, squat, stoop or kneel, reach about the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders/stairs. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must be able to lift 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals,, and outside weather conditions.
